This 356-A Porsche was purchased from famed West Coast racer, Chuck Parsons in the early 1960's. Parsons was quickly becoming an accomplished racer at that time, and sold the Porsche to raise money to buy the ex-Jim Hall “Birdcage” Maserati racing car. Interestingly, the Porsche sale transaction itself was handled by another soon-to-be famous West Coast racer, Ed Leslie.

The owner then used the car for personal street use for the next 20 years. Included in these miles was a wedding and honeymoon trip.

In the early 1980’s, the Porsche began its successful career in vintage racing. The car has raced at many West Coast venues, and has competed many times at the Monterey Historics where it has finished second and third. It has also competed at the Wine Country Classic, and other West Coast premier and club events. In addition, the Porsche has been featured in an article in Money Magazine, and has appeared in many other vintage racing magazine articles as well. It was also on display at the 2001, San Francisco International Auto Show.

The Porsche is very finely finished and a front runner.

The Porsche has a full race prepared engine. It has a counter-balanced crankshaft, Shasta pistons, and an Elgin cam. The valves are sodium filled, and the connecting rods are Carrillo. It has a lightened flywheel, bench flow tested heads, and modified Solex carburetors. It has a limited slip differential and close ratio gearbox. The suspension is lowered and de-cambered at both the front and rear ends. The brakes are vented with carbon metallic linings. The Porsche has a fuel cell, roll bar, and fire extinguisher. The tires are BF Goodrich Radial TA, 185 X 70 series.

This car is finely presented and well prepared. It has demonstrated over and over again, the legendary Porsche reliability. It is simple and easy to run and drive. It is a great choice for someone wishing to spend their vintage race weekends enjoying the view from up front, and not the view from under the car. Both the engine and gearbox have just been rebuilt, and prepared for another season of racing. Everything is fresh and ready to go. All that’s needed is a new owner and driver. The current state of preparation, and the race proven performance of this Porsche, make this an excellent value at $29,500.
